An ER Doctor tends a policeman, seemingly savaged by an animal, for loss of blood.
A 15-year-old girl goes to Klub Kremlin with her friend to get drunk and seduce rich members of the Russian Mafia, picking the pocket of a vodka-addict.
The doctor shares a drink with a neighbor who's locked himself out of his home. The girl gets a taxi back to her parents flat after being followed by a guy from the club.
As she walks up the stairs, she is grabbed from behind and knocked unconcious. The doctor is woken from his sleep, only to suffer the same fate.

They awake, bound in chains and gagged, along with a number of other people - including a policeman and an antiquarian - in a dark, damp warehouse. They're surrounded by masked figures. One walks up and down in front of them and gives a signal. They're grabbed from behind, feel something piercing their necks and their blood being sucked from their bodies. It is, at once, a horrific and orgasmic experience. As the life ebbs from their bodies, a metalic taste drips onto their tongues. They drink, hungrily, and awaken.
The figures leave, mockingly, and padlock the door.
Time passes. The people cannot escape from their bindings. A crone-like figure emerges from the darkness and stands before them, weighing up the situation.

"You're so ****ed," she says, "In big trouble, that you are!"
She then cuts her own throat with a ritual knife. Rather than a spray of blood, a crow emerges from the wound and flies out of the top of the building. The people scream through their gags. Moments later, the crone explodes into a shower of ash. There are noises from outside, and the metal door slides open. She walks back in, and observes the people once again.
She urges them to be quiet and trust her, removing their gags. They scream and yell for her to free them, but she refuses, saying she's helping them. When she frees their legs, they attempt to run, but she reacts with superhuman speed and forces them back into their seats. "You cannot escape from my home, children," she chides, "Now come - We go to meet him at the fair."
The doctor thinks she's mad, and says so in no uncertain terms. Again she states she's only helping, and they will die if she lets them go. She produces a fancy mobile phone from her cloaks and makes a call. Shortly, more disturbing individuals arrive in a van, rising upwards out of shadows and forcing the people to the vehicle.

They are taken into the heart of a closed funfair, through a hall of mirrors where no-one casts a reflection, past a merry-go-round, and to a room with several chairs. On one sits a man dressed in a business suit. Another contains a bishop. The crone takes her seat on the third. The businessman introduces himself as the Prince of the city. He asks the people what is going on. They don't know. The bishop mutters some words over a bug and it disolves in ashes. Every time the people lie, insects and beetles pour out of their mouths. A long and tense conversation ensues. The Prince and his Sherrif (a hulk of a man who's face seems to freeze in position rather than move slowly, and with a voice that comes from several feet behind him) attempt to explain they want to help the people. They tell them a change has happened that should not have - The people are now Vampires.

No-one believes this. The Prince and his court attempt to offer supernatural proof, but each event is dismissed as stage-trickery or hallucination. Demands are made as to why they've been kidnapped, and that they should be freed - "At least free the little girl!" pleads the doctor.
The Prince explains their bodies are different. They can withstand damage that no human could. "In that case, why don't you shoot me?" says the doctor. The Prince says "OK!" and pulls a gun, firing four shots into his chest.
They pass straight through him, into the wall behind. He's almost unharmed, and stammers in shock, as does everyone else. Gradually, the people become convinced of the change they are undergoing.
The system of the court is explained, as are many terms the vampires use, and the players given over to a reprasentative of the Ordo Dracul - One of the vampire societies. Zmey Gorynich refers to himself as a Grand Dragon, Master Of The Coils. He explains about the Ordo - It's an academic society dedicated to understanding the vampyric change and transcending it. He takes the new vampires to the Pushkin Museum where he demonstrates the horrible effects sunlight will have on them. Several of the people utter "Oh ****".
Over the next hours he talks them through many things - What they can do, their new powers, morality, and status. The antiquarian is fascinated - He'd suspected so much, but never like this! The next night, Zmey takes them on their first food hunt.
The doctor uses his vampire powers to entice a woman into the car they travel in. The young girl feeds, sucking down the blood as the woman groans with pleasure. Zmey pulls the girl off before the woman dies, and the doctor implants a memory that she met her favourite movie star before leaving her on the street, still dizzy with orgasmic delight. The others also hunt and feed on human blood for the first time......

Can we lure Damien back, he would probably do a better job of GMing vampire.

Good session, very different from anything beforehand.

As for the next session I have an office lunch on Thursday at 2.30 so will be horribly drunk by 6, should be fun.

On a side note, Graham, I've noticed a couple of things about how Dominate works; for Mesmerize, it DOES state later on that "No matter how strong the dominator's will is, or how many successes he obtains, he cannot make a subject harm himself directly. Any command to commit suicide is therefore ignored, although commands that are likely to lead to harm - such as "Walk into that crack house and shoot the man in the red shirt" - are enforceable, subject to Resolve rolls."
With your Forgetful Mind power, it's not always quite such a simple method as we used last night - The rules describe the power as a series of questions and statements over a period of time that take patience and finesse to achieve. In system terms, this is achieved by a combination of roleplaying and achieving a number of successes (set by the GM) over a series of turns. Each roll represents five minutes of manipulation.

I enjoyed last night, too - The characters were interesting and started to take form pretty quickly. It'll be good to see how they start to progress and come into their own.

After some discussion, the group decide to test their powers in a more dangerous way. Lavetta phones one of her club contacts - A low-level member of the Russian Mafia named Aranovsky. She tells him of a potentially lucrative deal she's got lined up trafficing stolen pharmacuticals, and mentions it could be worth millions upon millions. Of course, he's interested, and they arrange to meet at Club Bombastic soon after. A swift change of clothes, and Zarkov, Lavetta and Darian head into the club with Master Of The Burning Coils And Grand Dragon Of Moscow, Zmey, who waits for them at the bar in case of trouble. The club itself is a faux Rococo affair - Opulent velvet drapes, golden fittings, modernised paintings. Two sets of ornate stairs sweep up the back of the club to the VIP rooms, and three overhead walkways bridge the area allowing a view of everything below. Zarkov hires a private room from the bar, champagne, caviar and other tasty treats, tipping heavily.
Aranovsky is met in the VIP lounge, and comes to the private room with them to talk. Zarkov dominates him into making his bodyguards wait outside while Lavetta sips champagne and scoffs whatever she can, focusing vitae into her digestive system to do this. Discussion of the deal ensues. Aranovsky loves the scheme - especially the amount of money that can be made - but Zarkov's demand to be payed in underage girls meets with shock. Nevertheless, this is part of the team's plan. They hope he'll be unable to provide the goods and have to refer them towards his boss. Aranovsky's ambition, and the huge amounts of money he could stand to make, eventually overcome his wounded morals. Even though he's not sure how he'll do it, he agrees to concrete the deal. At first, he wants to do it on his own, but eventually he conceeds that he'll need the help of his boss when Zarkov starts to alter his memories. A long process ensues where the team attempt to garner the address of the Mafia boss using a discipline that is more suited to something else. Eventually, a false memory is implanted about Zarkov saving the bosses life in the past, and the team learn his name - Contempo - and finally his address. Aranovsky offers to take the team over to meet Contempo, knowing he'll be overjoyed to meet this guy from his past AND hear about the millions they could make.
Alas for poor Lavetta, the vitae in her digestive system is wearing down, and she has to make a sharp exit to the toilets. The food and alchohol spew back up, caked in clots of congealed blood. The taste of the food in her mouth is like licking the remains of a bonfire that's been smeared with rancid gorgonzolla. She clears herself up and heads back, only to run into Boris Techno, a clubber from her mortal past. He thrusts a microphone into her face, yelling how good it is to see her and if she'd give a few words for his show. She knees him in the balls with Vigor and runs with Celerity back to the group.
Upon arrival at Contempo's flat, Zarkov plays with his command power on the poor driver. Within moments, the driver is exiting the car, swearing, wringing his own urine from his expensive suit trousers. Zarkov says "Oh, that's ****." and the driver dashes behind the car, crouching as he has to empty his rectum, glowing with embaressment and appologising. "It must have been that takeaway!"
After some private discussion between Aranovsky and Contempo, the team are led in. Again, privacy is asked for, and the guards, Aranovsky, and Contempo's girl exit the room. The deal is described, and Contempo loves the sound of it. However, the team raise his suspicions when they attempt to sweeten the deal by including Lavetta in the deal. He smells a rat, and leaves to get the bodyguards to frisk the party. Zarkov and Darian refuse to be frisked, opting to leave, while Lavetta bears her breasts, uses vitae to create a flush of life, and is given more of a mauling than a frisking by the guards. Contempo is delighted with his toy for the night, and sends Aranovsky home with his girl.
Lavetta, again, uses vitae on her body to enable sex to ensue between her and Contempo. When he's exhausted and asleep, she smashes his head with a lamp until he's out for the count. She cuts her wrist, and pours the blood into his mouth - the team's plan being to ghoul him. Sneaking out of the room past the two sleeping guards, she lets Zarkov and Darian in, handing Zarkov the pistol Contempo kept under his jacket. She's creeping back when a loose floorboard causes one guard to stir. Using celerity, she's on top of him in an instant, but he shakes her off, reaching for a shotgun. Zarkov checks the guard in the kitchen, who's passed out from too much vodka. Darian moves to help Lavetta, who gets smacked in the mouth as she tries to bite the guard's arm. He levels the shotgun at her, and Darian fails to grab it from his hands. Zarkov appears in the door, starting to shout for the guard to drop the weapon, aiming a gun at him. Lavetta dives backwards at the exact moment the guard fires the shotgun. She feels the heat of the blast pass over her stomach as she flings herself to the floor, narrowly escaping a horrific wound. The guard levels his gun at Zarkov, who commands him to drop the weapon. He does, and surrenders. Shortly after, Lavetta has sucked most of his blood, leaving him dazed. He's put in a compromising position with the other guard, and Contempo's unconcious body taken to Zarkov's private medical office.
An X-ray reveals he's got a fractured skull. An attempted X-ray on Lavetta only provides a disturbing blurred mess. Contempo awakes, heavily sedated, and freaks, attempting to attack Lavetta - although he soon stops when he feels the pain. A long Mesmerize session implants the false memory that he got the wound slipping in the bathroom, and that Lavetta tried to help him, but he ran wild in his house firing the shotgun because in his dazed state he thought he was being attacked. The team helped him because the police were called. Contempo is mortified - He had two kilos of cocaine in his cupboard! Any attempts to enthral him with vampire blood seem to have failed, and dawn approaches.
Zarkov and Lavetta take Contempo back to Zarkov's flat for the day, while Darian heads back to the Pushkin to meet with Zmey. Upon arrival, The Dragon calls him over and introduces him to Myrta Petrov - the Herald of the Prince. The team have been summoned to an urgent meeting the very next night. Zmey phones Zarkov and Lavetta to tell them to attend the meeting; Lavetta had been filmed by someone at the club, and this could be a major problem, especially considering her use of Celerity......

To be continued.

XP:

Events of session and learning: 2
Roleplay bonus: 2

You can spend your XP before the next session, as this is considered the end of a chapter.

Overall, good session last night IMO. Nice mix of roleplaying and combat/discipline use - even if the players did move in a slightly unexpected direction and cause 98% of the session to be freeform. I'll have another look at the combat rules, as it seems bloody difficult to hit anything at the moment! That said, you're not using (and don't know about) certain vampire skills you all have that will boost your stats at any time. I also agree that a smack to the head with a lamp to a sleeping foe is likely to result in instant KO - I just wanted to test how easy it was to achieve the number of successes needed to get a KO in normal combat, and how many blows it would take to knock a human out in straight combat. Actually, the main concern you might have with doing that sort of KO could be making sure you don't kill the person! What I'm thinking of is maybe having a house rule where you'll get a number of automatic successes based on the weapon used and your skill or stats, and then make a roll on top of that - This way, you're much more likely to achieve an automatic KO, but still stand a realistic chance of doing more damage than you wanted (still be unlikely to kill with one blow, though). How does that sound?

In terms of rolling initiative each round, how did people like that? Would you prefer to do one roll that remains like that for the whole combat, and can only be altered by deferring actions to the start of the next turn or by using the bonus celerity gives you?

There was also some potentially interesting use of grapple from John. With hindsight, I think that he should have been able to grab the gun more easily, and I shouldn't have contested it - It'd only be the turn after he got his hands onto it and tried to grab it, etc, that the contested roll would come into play. For those without rulebooks, I'll post a more detailed breakdown of how combat works later.

A thief, Michael, is in a museum of religious art when he sees an unusual occurance. Fleeing from the building he falls from his rope and awakes, chained and wounded, in a warehouse....

A detective, Pyotr, is investigating an officer down call in a warehouse. He sees movement, feels pain, and awakes, chained and wounded in a warehouse....

The group met with the prince, who revealed that the previous night's antics in the nightclub had been filmed. Boris Techno and his crew were intending to use the footage on their public access television show the next night, and The Prince insisted that the group clean up the mess they had made. In return, he'd let them ghoul the three members of the production company and also offer them the chance to take over a mafia outfit with about 15 members. After discussion, the group agreed and headed over to meet with the Bishop of the Lancea Sanctum who also wanted to meet with them.
The Bishop's office was unusual to say the least, and his manner didn't go down to well with several members of the group. He offered them the chance to gain favour with the Lancea, but in a strange and backhanded way. An angel, he says, has been spotted in one of Moscow's parks, and he would like the group to show signs of their intent towards redemption by bringing him proof of what the angel has to offer.
From this, the group headed towards the flat of Boris Techno and his girlfriend Manga. After convincing his mother to sleep, the group tore the flat apart and found several duplicate tapes of the footage, and evidence that several more existed. Checking Boris' online calendar, they travel to the television studios and confront the three.
Victor uses command to force Boris into giving him the tape, and Pyotor escorts Manga to get coffee. Boris suddenly stabs Victor with an invisible knife and Boris and Alexander suddenly vanish and move at superhuman speed out of the room. A cry goes up and the party give chase, Pyotr wreslting Manga's bag from her before she escapes. Michael corners Boris and Alexander in an alley while other members of the group search the studios for the remaining tapes. Michael is shocked when an extremely powerful vampire suddenly makes himself apparent, and flies into a rage when presented with evidence that those mortals he holds close to him are being held hostage and possibly ghouled. He attacks the vampire who almost kills him with two easy blows. The vampire insists he brings the rest of the group to him, and attempts to talk them into working for him. He indicates he may be, or know, the ones who sired the group. The group resist him and call for backup, but the uber-vamp vanishes into the night before they arrive.
The prince is most pleased that they turned to him, and indicates that tomorrow night they can begin interrogating the captured mortals......

XP - 2
Bonus XP for Matt and Elwyn for the prelude - 2

Ghastliness ensues as the questioning begins. While Pyotr gently interrogates the bound suspects, Victor and Lavetta remove various parts of the anatomy of others and soon turn the room many different shades of internal organ. Not a huge amount of information is gathered by the torture, apart from the sight of Graham wincing at some of the acts Nick describes. With the help of a mysterious shadowy figure sent by the prince, they learn that all three (or rather, two and a bit) suspects have been ghouled and will prove uncooperative if asked to betray their master. None the less, the group continue with the questioning and eventually glean a few nuggets:
"The Master" first appeared a couple of months ago.
He only met the three ghouls a few times.
He got them to sign import forms and also to arrange meetings with mafiosas and smugglers.
They saw him with three "arabic" looking men at a morrocan tea shop who appeared to be normal but gave of an aura of rage.

One of the suspects tells Matt that she once followed the Master back to a wooden hut in a dodgy warehouse district. The team contact the prince who puts a group together ready for action the next night.

Victor and Lavetta return to Victor's apartment, only for the concierge to greet Victor with a "back so soon?" comment. Suspicions are raised, and Victor discovers the body of Contempo laid out on his bed, staked, mutilated and gutted. The curtain has been shredded, and written in blood on the wall is "You did this". Victor decides to sleep on the sofa. Next morning, he ignores any clues there may have been and calls the police, framing himself for murder.

The group meet up with the Prince's heavies and head to the warehouse. As they prepare, Manga (now partly bloodbound to Matt) pulls Pyotr aside and asks him to be careful - to hang to the back of the group when the rest go in - to keep an eye on the rear. He takes up position on the roof and looks through a rifle sights at the building as the rest prepare to enter. John stays by the car, checking the flank. As the group arrive at the door, Pyotr notices a huge amount of flammable canisters piled up all around the back and top of the building. He calls down to warn people just as the door is opened. A quick tactical retreat is sounded, and two of the heavies are asked to go and move a large truckload of explosives that forms the main part of the trap. As the truck drives off and no explosion is forthcoming, the team move in and pull open a grate in the middle of the room. Shouts from outside as the returning truck drivers see something at the back of the building. The heavies back off, and Lavetta and Victor leap down the tunnel shortly before the remaining explosives destroy the shed and all that was in it.
The two find themselves in a storm drain. Seeking a way out, they find two crudely scrawled murals on the wall - one of a city with several towers and another, more esoteric, image involving Russian heraldary. As they climb out of another exit, Lavetta feels something waft over her.
John sees a fox and chases it. Using celerity, he catches the astonished fox and beheads it. He then throws the body over a wall and wanders back, whistling innocently.
Victor is furious with possibly being led into a trap and has a blazing row with Pyotr. Manga is dragged from the car and Lavetta prepares to kill her, but Victor eventually concedes that there may be some use in her after all - She is the only direct link they have to The Master right now, and she may be able to be turned against him.
The team consult with The Prince about what happened, and check about finding records of video calls made recently. They're advised to meet with Gogol of the Carthian Movement.

One vote for "Let's hear it"!

Big Bad John.

"That was then. This is now. And you're toast."

At this point the GM screamed 'can we stop the roleplaying and get on with the hack and slash please?'. The whole party sat stunned, in awe, for several seconds (apart from Paul, who made a knob joke).
